Having started radiotherapy for cervical cancer for the first time in Korea, the Uterine/Ovarian Cancer Center at the Korea Cancer Center Hospital, which has accumulated extensive treatment experiences for over 60 years, provides the best healthcare service to individual cancer patients.
For the development of uterine cancer treatment, the center is also conducting various clinical studies with a sense of pride as a leader in global uterine cancer research.
In particular, it leads the development and use of surgical techniques including not only radical trachelectomy but also minimal invasive surgery to operate on uterine cancer through laparoscopy without laparotomy and radical hysterectomy to preserve the uterus for pregnancy.
For recurrent cervical cancer, the center dedicates utmost effort to increasing the survival rate of despairing patients through active treatment to remove all multiple metastatic lesions by using CyberKnife or Rapid Arc techniques.
Jointly with the Gynecological Center InterGroup (GCIG) and Gynecological Oncology Group (GOG), the Uterine/Ovarian Cancer Center has implemented a number of GCIG protocols as well as GOG 213, 218, 233, 249, 258, and 263. In 2009, the center was selected as a principal investigator by GOG for the first time in Asia, and it conducted the GOG263 study on the administration of radiochemotherapy to a patient group with medium-level post-cervical cancer surgery risk. In addition, as a principal investigator of GCIG for the multinational clinical study of TACO, it is leading a clinical study to develop a new method for increasing the cervical cancer cure rate by more than 10% through improvement of the chemotherapy for cervical cancer.
