RapidArc

The RapidArc Center of Korea Cancer Center Hospital has utilized the “ntensity modulation & image guided”radiation equipment, RapidArc in 2009 and since its implementation, the center has been achieving remarkable results in cancer treatments such as intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and image-guided radiotherapy.

With such achievement at its foundation, in 2012, the hospital has made the decisive contribution to the designation of Korea as the leading country in the IAEA Asia-Pacific technology provision program. The program is scheduled to provide stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) to 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific through IAEA by 2015.

Radiation treatment utilizing RapidArc include treatment of primary cancer such as brain cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, digestive system cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, gynecologic cancer, sarcoma, spinal cord tumor, metastatic cancer and other various cancer treatments.

The method significantly reduces treatment time and hospitalization time compared to conventional treatments as well as reducing the likelihood of complications developing. In particular, the method is regarded as the most effective alternative treatment for patients with difficulty in receiving surgeries.

The RapidArc Center of the Korea Cancer Center Hospital provides help to cancer patients whose body and mind are fatigued by the surgeries and treatments for cancer.

  • What is RapidArc?

The equipment circles the patient 360 degrees to generate a 3-dimensional image of the tumor to enable volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). The equipment makes corrections through computerized tomography (CT) of the patient prior to the treatment every day to compensate for errors that occur due to the patient' breathing and movement enabling more accurate treatments. RapidArc is regarded as the most advanced radiotherapy equipment.
