Department

Radiology

The Department of Radiology at the Korea Cancer Center Hospital was opened on November 25, 1963 following the installation of the Research Center of Radiological & Medical Sciences.

The following year, as the center was upgraded to the Research Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, the Radiological Diagnosis Research Center was installed.

In February 1968, with the opening of the Korea Cancer Center Hospital as an affiliate of the Research Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, the Department of Radiological Diagnosis was established and Dr. Su Seong Park was appointed as the first director. In April 1984, the department name was changed to the Department of Diagnostic Radiology.

In the latter phase of the 1990s, the department, led by Director Su Il Jin, introduced state-of-the-art medical equipment including MRI, single spiral CT, digital subtraction angiography system, and color Doppler ultrasonography system and completed 150,000 general imaging, 1,600 special imaging, and 102,000 ultrasonic, CT, and MRI cases each year.

To emphasize its role of patient care, the department name was officially changed to the Department of Radiology. According to the epochal development of imaging technologies such as high-resolution ultrasonic imaging, CT, and MRI, the importance of the department’s diagnosis and treatment is further amplifying.

In 2013, the Department of Radiology introduced the latest imaging equipment, AlluraClarity. This is an x-ray system to produce high-resolution images while keeping the amount of radiation to a minimum during interventional procedure or angiography. With the introduction of cutting-edge equipment, the department increased satisfaction of not only the medical staff but also patients as it produced excellent image quality while reducing the amount of radiation by 73% on average.

Equipped with state-of-the-art imaging equipment and lab including the multi-channel high-resolution CT, high-resolution mammography system, and high-frequency ablation therapy system, the Department of Radiology provides swift, accurate examination service through its excellent technological personnel.

Committed to fast, accurate diagnosis and care service, the medical staff at the Department of Radiology handle imaging and interventional therapy in their respective fields of expertise, such as nerves, abdomen, chest, musculoskeletal system, genitourinary system, cardiovascular system, and radiological science for breast.
